Microsoft Outlook Email Configuration Steps
Whether you have Outlook 2013 or Outlook 2016, setting up your email can be pretty difficult. Things get even more challenging when you’re setting this up for the very first time. But fret not, for here’s a complete step by step guideline that’ll help you grasp the nitty-gritty of setting your email on Outlook. In the next few sections, I’ve detailed complete guidelines for both automatically detecting the email and manually adding the email to your Outlook account. In either case, once you read these guidelines, adding your email will be a breeze.
Automatically Detecting The Email and Setting It Up
This is one of the simplest ways to set your email. In the following sections, you’ll find a detailed list of the steps that you’re required to follow.
Step One- For this first step, you’ll have to start Outlook and choose the File’ tab. Once you do that, you will find a list of categories. Select the Info’ category and choose account settings’.
Step Two- In the Account Settings’ dropdown, you will find an email’ tab. Select that tab and click on New’.
Step three- Once you’re done selecting, you’ll find a new dialog box called Add New account’. Select that box and it’ll automatically redirect you to the auto account set-up’.
Step Four- In the Auto account setup, you’ll find new tabs called Name’ and Email address’. Add your name and email address accordingly. Similarly, add your password in the password section and retype it.
Step Five- Once you’re done, select finish’ and close the tab.
After you’ve completed these steps, Outlook will try to automatically configure your email and name. If it is successful, you will be informed about the same in a dialog box. But if they fail, the auto account feature will try to connect with the help of an unencrypted connection. In case this method fails as well, you will have to configure the email manually.
Manually Configuring Your Email on Outlook
Like I already said, if the auto-configuration doesn’t work for you, try manually configuring your email on Outlook. Here’s what you have to do-
Step One- Select your Add new Account’ dialog box and click on Manual setup’/ Additional server types. After this, choose the tab called Next’, where you’ll have to select either IMAP’ or Pop’ and then click next’ once again.
Step Two- Once you’ve done this, you will be redirected to a dialog box called User information’ where you’ll be asked to add your name and full email address.
Step Three- In the server Information’ tab choose the kind of email you currently have in your Account Type’ Box. You’re typically asked to choose between POP3 and IMAP.
Step Four- After you’ve done this, you will have to type the exact name of your server (lowercase letters) in your Incoming mail server dialog box’. You can either add the name of the server or your IP address in this case.
Similarly, for the Outgoing mail server, add the name of your current outgoing email server (lowercase letters). Here too, you can either add the server name or the IP address.
Step Five- In the Login Information’ section add your username, your password’ and click on the remember password’ box.
Step Six- Once you’re done, click Finish’.
